LA-Style Carne Asada and Lengua Street Tacos at Chale Tacos in Taipei
Chale Tacos kindly invited us for a meal, but we wanted to review them as regular customers first. Here’s how their LA-style street tacos, Kaoliang margarita and spicy Mexican wontons held up for someone who spent six years eating tacos in Puerto Vallarta.
川渝小吃坊 - Sichuan & Chongqing Snack House - A taste of Chongqing in Taiwan
After a year living in Chengdu, I went looking for real málà in Taipei and found it at a small snack shop in Zhongshan run by a Chongqing native. I ordered the Chongqing hot and sour sweet potato noodles at medium spice, which was plenty for me, though the owner has just added an extra spicy level for anyone braver.
Waterfront, Tamsui: A Bali-Style Dinner and a Nightcap at Bar Salix
Misty and I finally tried Waterfront, the sprawling Bali-inspired restaurant on the Tamsui riverside. I had lamb chops with chimichurri that sizzled on a hot plate, she had Jimbaran chicken and vegetable skewers hung from a metal rack, and we ended the night with drinks at Bar Salix up the boardwalk.
Lin Yang Gang: Mala Stinky Tofu and Re Chao Classics in Taipei
“The kitchen closes in four hours, hope that’s okay.” Sammy and I only needed one hour to enjoy seven dishes at Lin Yang Gang on Chang’an East Road, and somehow ordered zero seafood at a live seafood restaurant.

Late-Night Ramen at Salt Ramen 長生塩人 (Chángshēng Yánrén), Beitou
Zeke was sure every ramen shop was closed by 10 pm, so we took a detour into Beitou for Salt Ramen (長生塩人). We both had the spicy miso ramen, with torched chashu, sous-vide chicken and noodles with a real chew, plus a side of the tart, spicy pickled radish.
