Grassland (草原風Cǎo yuán fēng) began as a side menu at the owners' café, 吻咖啡. A Mongolian customer told them how hot pot is eaten back home, they added Mongolian set meals, and those soon outsold the coffee. After a trip to Mongolia, they opened Grassland near Jiantan in 2006. A second shop opened on Yongkang Street in 2019, and the owners have kept it at two, only expanding when they have someone ready to run a new location.

Each diner gets a personal pot. The red broth is built on Chinese medicinal aromatics and heavy on cumin, with jujube, goji, whole garlic and cardamom in the pot, and there's also a herbal broth and a vegetarian one. The broth is seasoned so you don't need a dipping sauce, though the server may offer an oil-based sauce with raw garlic, scallion and chili. Sets start around NT$450, and a beef and lamb double meat set is NT$629. The vegetables arrive arranged by colour, and the house noodles are rainbow-coloured noodles that take about 15 minutes to cook. The Xinjiang flatbread (新疆烤餅) is a popular side.

The menu has plenty of English, and the staff at the Yongkang shop spoke English when we visited. From Dongmen MRT, keep following the road south to the entrance rather than turning at the corner.
