Laozi Hot Pot (荖子鍋) is a personal hot pot chain across northern Taiwan, almost always tucked inside a Carrefour or other hypermarket. You pick a broth and a main: meat, seafood, or a surf-and-turf set. The price includes an unlimited self-service bar: around thirty vegetables and hot pot items, noodles pressed fresh to order in-store, rice, a build-your-own sauce station, and drinks from soda through to soft serve. Broths run from Japanese sukiyaki to a mild peeled-chili to a cumin-forward mala, and prices range from a weekday lunch around NT$299 up past NT$1,000 for premium meat and seafood, before a 10% service charge. It's not a budget hot pot place, but it's very popular, with the draw being the unlimited sides bar and the fresh noodles alongside flavourful and varied broths.
