黑殿飯店
Dark Palace (黑殿飯店) has been serving pork chop rice in Tamsui since 1971. It started as a small, dim shop called 黑店 ("the dark shop") and later took its current name. The founding store, on a lane off Zhongzheng Road near Fort San Domingo, is in the 2026 Michelin Guide. Because the original is a walk from the MRT and the Old Street, a second shop, the 右岸店 (Right Bank branch), opened on Zhongzheng Road about three minutes from Tamsui MRT Exit 1.
The fried pork chop rice (黃金豬排飯, about NT$140) is the classic, though plenty of locals now order the fried chicken thigh instead. The fried rice is the other house specialty, and the 祖傳大滷湯 (ancestral braised soup, NT$80), thick with egg, bok choy, wood ear and pork, is worth adding. The beef tallow chili oil on the condiment counter is fairly spicy. The menu also goes higher, up to a NT$599 wagyu short rib beef noodle soup.
The two shops work differently. At the founding store you seat yourself, take a paper menu from the wall, mark your order and table number, and pay at the counter, and the cutlery is in drawers under the condiment counter. There's no service charge there. At the Right Bank branch, staff greet you, seat you and offer an English menu.
