Formosa Chang
Formosa Chang (鬍鬚張) began in 1960 as a braised pork rice stall in Taipei's Shuanglian market, run by Zhang Yan-quan. Customers nicknamed him "Bearded Zhang", and the name stuck. The shop moved into Ningxia Night Market in 1979 and has grown into about 70 company-run stores across Taiwan, plus a few in Japan. Its braised pork rice has been served on China Airlines flights since 2010.
The menu is built around 魯肉飯 (lǔ ròu fàn, braised pork rice). A small plain bowl is around NT$39, but most people order a set: the 飄香魯肉飯 (NT$71) comes with stir-fried greens, braised bamboo shoots, marinated cucumber and half an egg, and the bentos with pork chop or fried chicken leg run NT$130–140. Fried egg tofu (老皮嫩肉, NT$35) is the usual add-on.
Some branches are iPlus+ stores, the chain's self-service format. You order at multilingual kiosks for takeaway or by QR code at the table, and pick up from lockers, so there's no need to order in Chinese.
